BeerCORE BEERSShevchenko 9
$3.20
Style: Ukrainian Dunkel (Euro Dark Lager)
ABV: 5%
Our traditional Ukrainian Dunkel is true to the original with a nutty, toasted chocolate malt sweetness and medium bitterness. Finishes clean and crisp, just as a Lager should. A beer as stunning, bittersweet and complex as Kyiv itself, our Shevchenko 9, celebrates history, flair and just a touch of the dramatic!

A very nice and complex beer.
It is a kind of a cross between the traditional German dunkel, or dark lager, and something a bit more spicy and porter-like. The caramel flavour is tangible but there’s also some bitterness, as well as an ample body to this beer.
I have been impressed by the product and, as a soccer fan who remembers the great striker Shevchenko, am entertained by the fact that someone in Canada would brew a beer in his honour.
There are plenty of Ontario microbrews that I’ve had just once but won’t buy again – this one, I’ll gladly drink in the future.

I give Shevchenko a 5 out of 5. Tried it at The Gorge Country Kitchen in Elora. I asked the waitress for something dark and she bought me a beer that was dark as you could get. This beer was right up my alley as I prefer Guiness before anything else out there. When I had a Shevchenko I put it right there with Guiness and now I have an alternative. Great beer Four Fathers. I will now pay you a visit at your brewery and have a burger or chicken sanwich as I see on line you have your location at the north end of Cambridge. I am from Missisauga so my wife and I will see you soon! Having a Shevchenko as I type this. .

We cannot get enough of this beer. It is darker but extremely easy to drink. Highly recommended.

The beer’s great! I taste a bit more Waterloo Dark than Guiness.
Is the beer named after a footballer or the poet Taras Shevchenko? Either way, I’m exceedingly pleased that it’s stocked in Barry’s Bay.

Hi John,
Thank you so much for your kind comments. This beer is named after the famous Ukrainian football player Andriy Shevchenko. The founders of the brewery are avid fans of soccer and love to go to the World Cup when possible!
Thanks Again,
Ryan

I love a dark beer, and while trying to decide at the Breadalbane (Fergus), although I’d never heard of it (sorry, there are *so* many), I gave it a try. Let’s just say, I’m happy I did. I’ll remember the name, and happily order it again.
